Richmond is a village located in Madison Parish, Louisiana.
Richmond is in the Tallulah metro area. The community is in the Central Standard time zone. Richmond was a substantial town on the south bank of Roundaway Bayou at the confluence of Roundaway and Walnut bayous. Its location commanded the entrance to the road southward along Roundaway Bayou - the only road east of the Tensas River that led southward through Louisiana. Richmond town was occupied by Confederate Lt. Col. Isaac F. Harrison's 15th Louisiana Cavalry until evicted by Union Brig. Gen. Peter Osterhaus' division on March 31, 1863. Thereafter, Richmond town was garrisoned by Union forces until May 20, after which it was reoccupied by Harrison's troops. Richmond was occupied by Confederate Maj. Gen. John Walker's Texas Division on June 5 and used as a staging area for attacks on Milliken's Bend and Young's Point on June 7. The town was reoccupied by Union forces on June 15, but they soon withdrew to Milliken's Bend and Young's point after burning all of the town's buildings. Thereafter, Harrison's Confederate force reoccupied the town site, remaining there until the surrender of Vicksburg on July 4.
