London Waterloo is the UK's largest station, covering an area of 24.5 acres. One of its most notable features is the Victory Arch, built of Portland Stone. This commemorates the London and South Western and the Southern Railway men who gave their lives in the First and Second World Wars.
Waterloo Station was enlarged to become London's main link with the Channel Tunnel.
Waterloo International station adjoins Waterloo mainline station and has its own two-level concourse and train shed. It is the current London terminus for Eurostar trains to Belgium and France. The station is managed by Eurostar.
Eurostar trains arrive and depart under the glass-roofed terminus designed by Nicholas Grimshaw. Improvements have also been made outside the station, and a new pathway links Waterloo with the Royal Festival Hall.
Today London Waterloo Station has 19 platforms, plus 4 at Waterloo East and 5 for Eurostar. Waterloo serves Guildford, Southampton, Hampshire and Exeter, while the more suburban Waterloo East handles trains on the Charing Cross - London Bridge line. Eurostar serves Paris and Brussels.
